LAKEPORT, Calif. – This week the Lakeport City Council will honor two Lake County Sheriff's deputies for their efforts to save a suicidal man.
The council will meet beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in the council chambers at Lakeport City Hall, 225 Park St.
On Tuesday the council will present proclamations to Sgt. Andy Davidson and Deputy Jake Steely.
On Sept. 1, they responded to assist the Lakeport Police Department with a report of a man hanging from a tree at Clear Lake High School. However, while en route, they were informed by dispatch that the incident actually was occurring at the Natural High property on N. Main Street, according to the proclamations.
Davidson and Steely arrived on scene and contacted the reporting party, who directed them to the location on the shoreline where they found a man hanging from a tree.
The man's girlfriend tried to keep Davidson and Steely away from him. Steely grabbed the woman and handed her off to Davidson, who restrained her.
Steely then cut the man down and began doing chest compressions until Lakeport Fire paramedics arrived on scene. Paramedics would credit Steely's actions for resuscitating the man, who subsequently was transported to a local hospital.
Earlier this month, the Board of Supervisors also honored Davidson and Steely for their lifesaving acts.
On the meeting's consent agenda – items considered noncontroversial and usually accepted as a slate on one vote – are ordinances; warrant registers from Nov. 6; meeting minutes from Nov. 4 and Nov. 10; and adoption of a resolution approving amendment No. 1 to the agreement for services between the
city of Lakeport and Margaret Silveira.
The council also will hold a closed session with legal counsel regarding potential litigation with Steve Brookes, the former city attorney.
