Deadlines announced for submitting arguments or or against Measure Z

NOTICE TO VOTERS OF DATE AFTER WHICH NO ARGUMENTS FOR OR AGAINST CITY OF LAKEPORT MEASURE Z MAY BE SUBMITTED TO THE CITY CLERK


NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the General Municipal Election is to be held in the City of Lakeport on November 8, 2016, at which there will be submitted to the voters the following measure:

LAKEPORT PUBLIC SAFETY/ESSENTIAL CITY SERVICES MEASURE.
To maintain/enhance general City services including: recruiting, hiring, retaining qualified police officers to improve neighborhood patrols, maintain response to property, burglary, violent crimes; paving/repairing local streets/potholes; enhancing business attraction/youth recreational programs; keeping Lakeport’s parks/pool safe and clean; shall the ordinance to enact a one-cent sales tax until ended by voters, providing about $1,500,000 annually, requiring independent audits, citizens’ oversight, all revenues controlled locally, be adopted?

Arguments for and against City of Lakeport Measure “Z” must be typed and submitted to the City Clerk, City Hall, 225 Park Street, Lakeport, no later than Friday, August 5, 2016, at 5:00 p.m. 

Arguments may be submitted by the Lakeport City Council or any member or members of the City Council authorized by the Council; or any individual voter who is eligible to vote on the measure; or bona fide association of citizens; or any combination of such voters and associations.  No argument shall exceed 300 words in length.  No more than five signatures shall appear with any argument. 

All arguments must be accompanied by the statement required in Section 9600 of the California Elections Code stating the printed name and signature or printed names and signatures of the person or persons submitting it or, if submitted on behalf of an organization, the name of the organization and the printed name and signature of at least one of its principal officers. 

Only one argument for and one argument against shall be selected for printing and distribution with the sample ballots.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the City Council has determined that rebuttal arguments, not to exceed 250 words in length, as submitted by the authors of the opposing direct arguments, may be filed with the City Clerk no later than Monday, August 15, 2016 at 5:00 pm, accompanied by the printed name(s) and signature(s) of the author(s) submitting it, or if submitted on behalf of an organization, the name of the organization and the printed name and signature of at least one of its principal officers who is the author of the argument.
