LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Board of Supervisors will hold a special meeting this week to discuss the local health emergency due to the wildland fires and discuss relinquishing a grant to expand the Lake County Jail.
The board will meet beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, in the board chambers on the first floor of the Lake County Courthouse, 255 N. Forbes St., Lakeport.
The meeting can be watched live on Channel 8 and online at http://www.co.lake.ca.us/Government/Boards/Board_of_Supervisors/calendar.htm . Accompanying board documents, the agenda and archived board meeting videos also are available at that link.
In the meeting's only timed item, at 9:06 a.m. the board will consider continuing a proclamation of a local health emergency by Lake County Health Officer Karen Tait in response to the county's wildland fires.
In an untimed item, County Administrative Officer Carol Huchingson will ask the board to approve sending a letter to the state relinquishing a $20 million state grant the county received in 2014 for a jail expansion project.
Huchingson, along with Sheriff Brian Martin, is asking for the board's approval to give back the funds, as the county is financially unable to increase funding for staffing or jail operations to meet the expansion's requirements, according to Huchingson's report.
