CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Second Sunday Cinema will host a showing of the film “Harvest of Empire” on Jan. 13.

The film will be shown at the Clearlake United Methodist Church, 14521 Pearl Ave. near Mullen in Clearlake.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the film beginning at 6 p.m. Admission is free.

Immigration is on everyone’s mind. “Aliens” are facing death daily to cross into the United States, and it’s not Canadians who want to live here, it’s people from El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Mexico and other Central and South American countries. Why?

This fascinating, information-stuffed documentary by award-winning journalist and author Juan Gonzalez of Democracy Now! gives the history of United States military and economic intervention in these countries.

The resulting destabilization and impoverishment drive people across the borders, desperate for work so they can feed their families.
