KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Kelseyville Pear Festival has announced the winners of the 2013 Pear Dessert Contest.
Martha Rose took high honors for first and second place.
Rose, who runs a Lakeport preschool, continues to take time to create entries for the festival.
This year she submitted four beautiful desserts.
First place recipe was “Caramelized Pear Lacy Snaps with Praline Sauce.” Second place was Rose’s “Beyond Com-Pear Vanilla Bean Cupcakes.”
Third prize went to Kelly Thorn for her “Pear Custard Pie.”
Fourth and fifth prizes went to Linda Marshbanks for a “Pearfait” and “Almond Pear Nougat.”
The top five winners were awarded gift certificates from the following Kelseyville restaurants: Saw Shop Gallery Bistro, 3825 Main St., 707-278-0129; Lyndall’s Sports Stop Grill, 4220 Main St., 707-279-0123; Brickhouse BBQ, 4015 Main St., 707-289-4022; Studebakers Coffee House and Delicatessen, 3990 Main St., 707-279-8871.
The contest was again generously sponsored by Lake Parts, 1015 S Main St., Lakeport, 707-263-5677.
Returning judges Madelene Lyon, Marcie Cadora and Chris Mansell took on the fun task of selecting the contest winners.
Janice Stokes, contest chair, said she was happy to participate in an interview from NYC executive editor of Saveur Magazine, Betsy Andrews.
Andrews also visited with the California Women in Agriculture during the prep and baking of their famous pear pies and pear tarts for sale during the festival, which took place on Saturday, Sept. 28.
