LAKEPORT, Calif. – This week, the Board of Supervisors will host the presentation of awards to two local school administrators who helped authorities located a wanted murder suspect, discuss additional legal help for the sheriff in a lawsuit and hold a workshop on a draft cannabis ordinance.
The board will meet beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, in the board chambers on the first floor of the Lake County Courthouse, 255 N. Forbes St., Lakeport.
The meeting can be watched live on Channel 8 and online at http://www.co.lake.ca.us/Government/Boards/Board_of_Supervisors/calendar.htm . Accompanying board documents, the agenda and archived board meeting videos also are available at that link.
In a presentation set for 9:08 a.m., the District Attorney's Office and the Lake County Law Enforcement Chief's Association will present Principal Diane Johnson and Vice Principal Joseph Madrid of Pomo Elementary School in Clearlake with awards for what officials said was “heroic assistance” on Dec. 1 in apprehending a murder suspect.
On that date, the school administrators spotted Ezequiel Junior Bravo, 24, of Clearlake at around 9 a.m., about seven hours after he had forced his way into the Clearlake Oaks home of his in-law. There, he fatally shot his wife's aunt, Theresa Brown, and wounded her young daughter as well as his father-in-law and mother-in-law, as Lake County News has reported.
Law enforcement had carried out a manhunt to find Bravo when the school administrators reported him. He subsequently was taken into custody by the Clearlake Police Department.
Bravo remains in the Lake County Jail with bail set at $7 million, according to jail records.
In an untimed item, the board will consider an agreement for legal services between the county and Ewing and Associates to represent Sheriff Brian Martin in a breach of contract lawsuit filed in December by the Lake County Correctional Officers' Association. The amount of the contract is not to exceed $30,000.
Also on Tuesday, at 2 p.m. the board will hold another workshop to review and discuss a draft cannabis ordinance.
The board held an initial workshop on the draft ordinance in January, and had planned another last month which was rescheduled due to the floods.
The full agenda follows.
