UPPER LAKE, Calif. – State, local and federal fire officials were engaged on Saturday in the effort to contain two small wildland fires near Upper Lake.
The incidents, called the Bear and the Lake fires, began in the morning and afternoon, respectively.
The Bear fire began around 10 a.m. Saturday in the area of Bear Creek Road north of Upper Lake, with Cal Fire and US Forest Service firefighters responding, according to radio reports.
The fire was located within the Mendocino National Forest, according to forest spokesperson Sandra Moore.
Moore told Lake County News on Saturday that the fire was three acres and 50 percent contained.
She said aircraft had been used to fight it and had been released.
At around 3:30 p.m., Cal Fire was dispatched to the Lake fire along Highway 20 between Blue Lakes and Old Highway 20, according to radio reports.
A short time later, Northshore Fire also responded, with an updated address reported as being in the 6800 block of W. Highway 20, based on reports from the scene.
Shortly before 4:45 p.m. progress on the fire was reported to be stopped.
Cal Fire managed the incidents. A total acreage on the incident wasn’t immediately available and wasn’t reported over the air.
Reports from the scene indicated that a tractor may have been the source of the fire.
