Lake County Agriculture and Natural Resource Day supported by numerous organizations

LAKEPORT, Calif. – It was a cold and wet morning on March 15, but that didn’t stop an estimated 1,500 students and their teachers and parent chaperones from coming out to the second annual Lake County Agriculture and Natural Resource Day.

This event, put on by the Lake County Fair Foundation in collaboration with Lake County Farm Bureau, University of California Cooperative Extension 4-H, Umpqua Bank and Lake County Office of Education, garnered more interest from schools and exhibitors this year.

The purpose of this event was to provide students kindergarten through grades, experiences and information on agriculture and natural resources, both within Lake County and the state of California.

There was a diverse array of topics and activities at this year’s event, including but not limited to interaction with various animals and insects, a sheep herding demonstration, an electricity and energy demonstration, a walnut shaker demonstration, information on Lake County trails, a water system exhibit, a tractor exhibit, fire safety education, food systems education and recycling education.

Students also got plenty of hands-on experiences with painting toad houses, making bookmarks, drawing fruits and vegetables, filtering water, walking through a hay maze, making butter by hand, and tasting pears and apples.

Organizers said the success of this event could not have happen without the support of sponsors, exhibitors, volunteers and schools.

They offered thanks all our sponsors, exhibitors, volunteers, teachers and parent chaperones who spent their time, energy and resources to provide this rich educational experience to our Lake County youth.
