KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – International singer, songwriter and sound healer Clare Hedin will be the guest presenter at this month's Companion Circle.

The educational and social gathering is Monday, May 21, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at A Positive Light Center for Spiritual Awakening, located at 6470 Kelsey Creek Drive in Kelseyville.

The event is open to the public.

In addition to her prolific music career (she's produced seven CDs), Hedin is an international speaker and educator for the creative potential of humanity. In addition to her own developed curriculum on self-transformation, she researches consciousness for social change and teaches creativity and innovation at San Francisco State University.

Hedin has developed a theory for collective evolution called dynamic emergence, which informs most of her work.

"There is an energy waiting to express itself. Whilst it is unseen, it is tellingly impactful and so alive in each of us," said Hedin. "Our relationship to this energy influences what we are experiencing, who we are becoming and what we are creating."

For the Companion Circle, Hedin will explore mindfulness of sound and silence as a path to experiencing this energy. "Forming a conscious relationship with this energy," she noted, "gives us access to our inspiration, creativity, vitality and our deepest joy."

JoAnn Saccato, mindfulness teacher and host of the Companion Circles, also sees the importance of a more conscious awareness of our vital life force energies, particularly when it comes to her work with mindfulness and intention.

"When we move from a place of authentic expression, there is no striving or forcing--and hence, no exhaustion," she said. "Rather, it becomes a vital spilling over of the never ending abundant flow of life expressing itself."

Hedin shares her talents and teachings worldwide at hospitals, conferences, workshops, ritual space and radio programs. She performs at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco for sacred yoga and labyrinth walks and has used sound for her own healing and deepening relationship to the sacred. She accompanies her voice exploration and expression with piano and a shruti box, an instrument used in classical Indian music to create a melodic droning sound.

Companion Circles are monthly gatherings for those curious about or committed to a mindfulness practice. The circles occur on the third Monday of the month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The evening includes a guided mindfulness exercise, question and answer period, social mingling and the presentation.

Mindfulness is a popular health and wellness practice based on purposefully bringing a curious, non-judgmental attention to our present moment experience.

It is a scientifically proven approach that helps reduce stress and stress-related illnesses, increase focus and attention, decrease incidences of and relapses with depression, reduce anxiety, reduce relapses in addiction, and with sleep and digestive disorders. It has also been shown to increase well being, life satisfaction and happiness, as well as improved social relationships.

Attendees are invited to wear comfortable clothing, bring a journal, and, optionally, a simple finger food to share. Tea and water are served.

There is a suggested donation of $10, though no one is turned away for lack of funds. A portion of proceeds from the monthly event is donated to Asian elephant rescue efforts working to free elephants in the entertainment field from harmful abuse.
