Wine studio to host art show, wine reception Dec. 7 and 8

Art by Tje Koski.

UPPER LAKE, Calif. – Lake County Wine Studio is hosting a wine release party and artist show reception with Bryan and Jill Kane of Sol Rouge and local artist, Tje Koski on Friday, Dec. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 8, from 4 to 7 p.m.

The $15 ($12.50/per person for studio club members) wine sampler and appetizers by Fresh & Bangin’ Eatery will feature an Armenian menu showcasing the 2017 Rosé paired to sesame sourdough with zatar butter and house made Armenian string cheese, 2016 Gypsy Blanc with Tabbouleh, 2014 Zinfandel with Lula kebabs with smoked eggplant, and the 2014 Gypsy Rouge with Kataifi baklava.

Born in New York state, Tje Koski spent part of her educational years in the Boston area to finish high school and become a registered nurse.

She headed west, ending up in San Francisco, and while continuing to work as a nurse, she returned to artistic passions at the S.F. Art Institute studying drawing and painting. This led to furthering her education and graduating summa cum laude from SFSU with honors in painting.

Koski eventually made her way north to make Lake County her home and became active in the art community. She was one of the founding members of what is now the Lake County Arts Council.

She has held a number of one-woman shows, has been shown in several juried shows at the Riverfront Gallery in Petaluma, and participated in the “Bark” show held annual at John Natsoulas Gallery in Davis. Her most recent display was in the Dog Painting Show at the Sebastopol Center of the Arts.

Koski paints exclusively in oils on canvas and her works are often influenced by her worldwide travels. Her most recent journeys have been to Turkey, Mexico, England and Vietnam.

Bryan and Jill Kane will join the reception evenings to introduce their new Sol Rouge wine releases.

The new Rhone varietal Gypsy Rouge red blend, and Zinfandel have received 92 pt. ratings from Wine Enthusiast Magazine.

Winemaker Bryan Kane embraces proven, old-world winemaking methods – using French oak, native yeast, natural secondary fermentation and minimal racking with no fining or filtering.

His non-interventionist technique intends to bring forth the true flavor and characteristics of the vineyard through to the wines and has defined him as one of the pioneers in the "natural wine" movement. With his primary focus on Rhone varietals, Kane is equally adept with Bordeaux varietals. Jill Kane can be credited with taking exceptional hands-on care of the Sol Rouge vineyard.

Sol Rouge is a vineyard located in the rich, red, volcanic soil of the Red Hills Appellation at elevations over 1,800 feet, nestled between Mt. Konocti and Benson Ridge.

Currently planted with Grenache, Mourvédre, Syrah, Counoise, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Cinsualt, the site is all hillside with slopes up to 60 percent and has high density plantings of nearly 6,000 vines per hectare in some blocks.

Lake County Wine Studio is a gallery for display of arts and a tasting room, wine bar and retail shop for the fine wines of Lake County. Artists’ shows are held on a monthly basis with art and wine receptions held the first Friday and subsequent Saturday of each month.

The gallery is located at 9505 Main St. in Upper Lake. It is open Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 7 p.m., and Friday from 1 to 8 p.m.

The Koski art show will be on display for the months of December and January.
