Susan Kaye Parkinson
1959 – 2020

NICE, Calif. – Susan Kaye Parkinson of Nice passed away peacefully on Jan. 30, 2020, after a tough but courageously fought battle with glioblastoma brain cancer.

She is survived by her husband of almost 27 years, Jon Parkinson, and their children, Claire and Andre Parkinson.

She was a kind, loving, and resilient woman who touched the lives of so many and will be deeply missed.

Susan was born on Aug. 31, 1959, to Joanne and Lowell Fields in Sacramento, California. She grew up swimming competitively and taking family trips in her father’s plane with her mother and two brothers, Eric and Jon Fields. She was predeceased by her parents and brother Jon.

Susan graduated with a degree in business administration from the University of California, Berkeley and went on to get her law degree at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. She was a successful attorney with her own practice for 30 years, representing landlords in San Francisco, Marin and, more recently, Lake County.

She met her husband Jon at a wine tasting class in 1989 and they quickly fell in love, moving in together after a week of dating and marrying in 1993 at the Brazilian Room in Berkeley, California. They bought a home in San Rafael, of beautiful Marin County, where they raised their two children and became an integral part of their community.

With both of their kids out of the nest, Susan and Jon made the permanent move last year to their beloved cottage by the lake in Nice, California, where they have owned property since 2002.

Susan loved the peace and tranquility that Clear Lake provided as well as the wonderful friends she made there.

In her free time, she enjoyed early morning kayaking with friends, taking her trusted companion, Tico, to the dog park, and designing and decorating every interior and landscape she could get her hands on.

She was a fiery soul, always speaking her mind and never giving up when it came to her family and friends who she loved so fiercely.

Thank you to the many friends, family and health care professionals who provided support and care for Susan during her three-month battle with cancer. We are forever grateful.

A celebration of life will be held for Susan on Saturday, Feb. 29, from 1 to 3 p.m. at her home in Nice. Any and all friends of Susan and the Parkinson family are welcome to wear something of her favorite color, lavender, and join us in celebrating the incredible life she led.
