| A campaign sign urging no on Measure D was destroyed by vandals. Courtesy photo. |
I arose Thursday morning to see an ad by the proponents of Measure D in the newspaper with the same old story, accusing opponents of the measure of lies lies lies!
Once again, as so many times before they never mention what lies they were talking about. It took me back to remembering grade school and how children argue.
The good news is that everywhere we go, the opponents of Measure D have been met with welcome open arms.
We're getting our message out to all the community organizations and nearly to a person, everyone is heavily endorsing our stance.
On a down note it seems that the proponents of Measure D have been busy too.
Five signs that say, “No on Measure D" located on private property along the highway in Kelseyville have been destroyed.
In order to destroy them the vandals have had to crawl over fences and trespass, breaking the law on their way to breaking another law.
This is another example of why you don't want marijuana growers writing their own legislation.
In other areas, more visible, the signs are simply quickly knocked over and neighbors have been putting them back up.
So please get out to vote and vote no on Measure D.

Attorney Ron Green was banned months ago when he posted a very mean spirited, poorly thought out comment that named individuals and opened them up to harm. He then went on the radio and attempted to pillary LCN for blocking him but was castigated by the show's host who agreed that we had taken appropriate action. Green followed that with a near constant stream of abusive emails and threats to the point that we had his emails to Elizabeth embargoed at the server so she wouldn't be subjected to his abusiveness. In spite of Mr. Green's claims, his letter was not received along with every other email he sent since we put him into the spam filter.
Attorney Green's nonsense was coincident with a time when LCN was under daily, politically motivated cyber attacks which began during the last election cycle that initially threatened the existence of this news publication and ultimately resulted in a major upgrade and redesign you see today. These attacks continue and a side effect appears to be randomly blocking of posting. I have found that my own ability to post was blocked at several times as well. That issue is easily solved and I'm pleased to say the site has not been taken offline recently by those criminals.
Smurf recently posted a highly vicious comment degrading both a female candidate and a local female editor, his ability to post comments has been temporarily suspended.
Calling people names is not the way to get things done and we are under no obligation to entertain that behavior. LCN is not and will not be a platform for abuse. We generally take a very tolerant approach to the comments particularly when compared to the two other major news websites in Lake but when people really go out of their way to be abusive jerks we take action.

You go on relentlessly attacking people, spinning their replies to fit your agenda and now that all of your misinformation has been thwarted, you want to take your toys and go home. GOOD LUCK! Every person I have talked to on the subject is voting YES ON MEASURE D - Because it is the right thing to do.

If you are referring to 72.A.6 Conflicts with other provisions of law - It only trumps laws, ordinances that are regarding growing Medical Cannabis, or that would change the original intent of Measure D, say like the BOS has tried to do. A Measure is NOT going to over write laws in existance regard other issues.
So - Greg - your Erosion Control argument is BOGUS - your stating that Measure D over writes State, county or local laws is BOGUS - What else you got.

That was a pretty desperate ad today. How you claim to address all those concerns you made up with a fairy tail document that never mentions any of them is beyond me.

Dwain submitted a letter for publication accusing the opponents of Measure D of 'lies' which has not been published as it falls far short of establishing any lies.
I was called last night by the "deputies association" or some name that claimed that Measure D would allow marijuana grows and SALES in residential areas.
Californians have been allowed to grown marijuana in residential areas for over FIFTEEN YEARS. It is STATE LAW. and NO ordinance can change that.
Measure D says NOTHING about sales of marijuana. Selling marijuana is a STATE crime in the state of California and will remain so WHETHER OR NOT Measure D passes.
The claim that Measure D allows SALES of marijuana from residential homes IS AN OUTRIGHT LIE.
Yet, John Jensen will most enthusiastically print an an article from a half brain that conflates teenage vandalism with the writing of county ordinances as if that has some important meaning.

Measure D states "72A.1 (c) The purpose of this article is to regulate by land use provisions in the zoning ordinance the number of Medical Marijuana plants that can be grown outdoors in the various zoning districts for individual use, and also collectively, in accordance with California Law. This article does not restrict or affect the right of qualified patients and the primary care givers to cultivate medical marijuana indoors"
It's all about setting limits and not at all about overriding any state laws that are in place.
Must I lead you by the nose everywhere? You're worse than a little kid. I never mention state law. I'm talking local codes and zoning laws. jessh!

Cannabis is the greatest plant in the world as far as its diversity in medicine and industry. Non-toxic biodegradable plastic is just one of the great things it can do. It helped create this country. When this country was founded - if you wanted property you HAD to grow cannabis - it was the law - it was so important that they wanted everyone growing it. What happened - special interest (like dow chemicals) bought off greedy congressmen and the senators to demonize this great plant.
Thomas Jefferson has said his favorite passtime was to sit on his back porch and smoke "hemp". It would not have surprised me if he smoked a little "hemp" before writing the Declaration of Independance. Have you read it word for word.(?)

There were over 2000 signatures to create this measure. Good luck!

Greg, I am sorry that you are confused about this MeasureD. smilies/shocked.gif Prop 215 has already passed - 15 years ago. That gives Medical Cannabis patients the right to grow there own Medicine. They can grow 6 plants (flowering) per Recommendation on all parcels listed in Measure D. The "loophole" in Prop. 215 is that - if a person gathered enough Recommendations - they can grow 100's on their property (6 plants per Rec.) LEGALLY. That is right now. What Measure D does is adds a maximum of plants per the size of ones property. 1/4 acre no more than 12 - 1/2 acre no more than 24 - 5 acres no more than 66 - 7 acres or more 84 MAXIMUM. Right now a person can grow as many plants as they want to, providing they have the Recs to accommidate them.
I am not calling you a liar - I think that you have been misinformed or are confused. or maybe Mr. Brown is using you for his dupe
The supervisor's Ordinance.
I think the People of California will deal with CA 215 later.

While disputing the mis-information that Greg Cornish has been spouting ("your name has been blocked"). Like his run-away erosion control problems (not an issue) Measure D does not over-ride state law, especially Erosion problems (big fines), it CAN'T because a Measure is not going to override laws already in place, state or locally unless specifically stated. If you see improper growing methods - REPORT IT to the proper authorities, sheriff, State water board, Fish & game, etc.
This needs to be dealt with locally as Measure D is trying to over ride local code and make them exempt from local regulation as repeatedly reported by me and picked up by the Press Democrat endorsed and printed.
This Measure is for setting limits -right now a person can grow over 1000 plants on any given parcel - this measure stops that and limits it to 84 and only if you have 7 acres or more. There are several 1/4 acre parcels in my area with over 99 plants - they pack as many plants as they fit on their property. Talk about hazards.
This Measure has nothing to do with setting limits. This measure says it set limits at the top of the document. then makes growers exempt from all local laws and codes in the following vague gibberish which I have repeatedly pointed out in the Measure D document's own language..
I have already voted for Measure D (absentee) and everyone I have talked to about this is also VOTING YES FOR MESASURE D. Between Rob Brown's personel vendetta and Greg's mis-informations - people have seen thru the fog (smoke)of deceit.
I guess we will find out on Tuesday - I foresee a victory for YES ON MEASURE D.
You have the Loveless Group, an underground subversive movement that brags of spies in the law enforcement and judicial systems and the support of the Green Valley marijuana Growers
We have.

Sierra Club - Lake Group
Kelseyville Business Association
Buckingham Home Owners Association
Clear Lake Riviera Home Owners Association
Lake County Board of Supervisors
Lakeport City Council
Clearlake City Council
Lake County Board of Education
And the Press Democrat
Good luck on Tuesday I hope We, the Good Guys win..
Until Cannabis and Hemp are fully legalized - greed will always show his hand. Look at the end of Alcohol prohibition, crime was rampant during the transition to legalization.
You, Rob Brown and I are in complete agreement here. But you can't do it in a state by state fashion or you'll end up in the chaos we have now. It needs to be done thoroughly with forethought and federally based with licensing and taxing plans in place before implementation. It doesn't need to be legal only for medicine either. Everyone over 18 or 21 years of age should be able to use it relationally in their own home. It would solve the medicinal farce.

VOTE NO ON D!
written by jjensen, June 02, 2012
As to a 'Republican agenda' held by LCN, we would refer you to local Republican stalwarts who have criticized us for what they perceive as our 'liberal' posture. People both left and right regularly point out articles they suggest is right or left leaning coverage. That would appear to put us squarely in the middle.
Dwain submitted a letter for publication accusing the opponents of Measure D of 'lies' which has not been published as it falls far short of establishing any lies.
He claims that people's concerns that "measure D promises doomsday if it passes, increased crime, gangs, home invasions, etc" are lies.
The problem is that all of this and more happened in Mendocino according to the 2010 Mendocino Grand Jury report when cultivation was made 25 plants across the board in the year 2000. Disastrous consequences and years of turmoil and quagmire were the reward there.
"Measure G passed in 2000. The measure states: “…remove the fear of prosecution and the stigma of criminality from people who harmlessly cultivate and/or use marijuana for personal medical or recreational purposes”. Measure G also set a limit of 25 plants per medical marijuana patient. The growing of marijuana in Mendocino County subsequently became a major industry and a magnet for marijuana growers, who moved here from other states and countries to make quick profits.
This quasi-legalization has caused residents to become inflamed with a rise in crimes such as home invasion, armed robbery, fires, and murder. Declines in property values and increases in water use, hazardous waste, odor, ecological damage, misuse of public lands, and health related issues are also of significant concern to the public. Additional GJ concerns are the effects that the marijuana culture has on children and on employment opportunities in Mendocino County."

---------------------------------------------------
When I was a child I was taught that lying was a sin. I was also taught that the "ends justify the means" is a false excuse and really that "it is not whether you win or lose, it is how you play the game."
Remember the Iraq war, when enough Americans were convinced that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, that President Bush could then visit mass destruction on Iraq? Did we learn anything? I sure hope we learned that believing lies can end up with disastrous consequences and years of turmoil and quagmire.
This election season sees another campaign of lies and distortion with supervisor Rob Brown leading the charge against Measure D, the ballot initiative that limits the number of medical marijuana plants that can be grown, based upon the parcel size and zoning.
That is ALL Measure D does, and would result in LESS marijuana being grown in Lake County than under current state guidelines. It does NOT allow marijuana to be grown where it is not already legal, and it does not make ANY reference to the selling of marijuana (another dispensary ordinance will be required for that.)
There are 58 counties in California. Of those that have enacted marijuana cultivation ordinances, Measure D would make Lake County one of the more RESTRICTIVE counties. For example, in Sonoma County a marijuana patient may grow up to 30 plants in a residential district and may possess up to three POUNDS of processed marijuana. Other counties ordinances either include greater number of allowable plants than under Measure D, or square footage of garden that may be allocated. For example, in Humboldt County, marijuana patients are allowed up to 300 square feet of growing space (or 10 x 30 feet, enough to grow a great many plants.)
You've seen the Sample Ballot where the argument against Measure D promises doomsday if it passes, increased crime, gangs, home invasions, etc. I was half expecting the claim that voting for Measure D would grow hair on the palms of your hands!
Seriously, though, where, in all the other counties in California that more lenient law for growing marijuana, have any of these dire predictions come true? And where is the evidence? Well there is none, because the claims made by Rob Brown and his committee are false, absolutely false. In fact, they are outright lies. This is extremely shameful on Mr. Brown's part because he is entrusted with the ability to make fair land use decisions for Lake County. If Mr. Brown had his way, most marijuana patients would have to BUY their drug from large scale growers (check the previous ordinance that was overthrown by the people.)
When confronted with these lies, the argument is always one of free speech, something that is sacred to Americans. Yet you are not free to yell "FIRE!" in a crowded theater. Why should elected politicians be allowed to yell "Doomsday!" on an important issue that affects a large number of Californians? It is just as immoral and disgusting.
Lastly, I don't know about you, but I resent the government telling me what I can do or cannot do in my bedroom, what I can keep or cannot keep in my medicine chest or refrigerator, or what flowers and herbs I can grow or cannot grow in my home garden. Remember the concept of LIBERTY? Where are the TRUE Republicans when you need them?
I urge every Lake County voter to compare the arguments against Measure D with the ACTUAL measure itself. I am sure you will find Measure D reasonable, easy to understand, and fair for everyone involved.
I know I will be voting against Rob Brown and for Measure D because I love Lake County and want Lake County to join the rest of California and the 21st Century, put this issue behind us, and take a stand against lying in public by elected officials.
