KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – In response to the statewide and local drought situation, the Lake County Winegrape Commission and Lake County Farm Bureau recently collaborated to present “Lake County Farm Drought Response,” a forum for the exchange of drought-related information.
More than 75 people attended the Feb. 26 forum at the Soper-Reese Theatre in Lakeport.
A range of topics were discussed including groundwater status, water rights, vine and tree response to drought, irrigation conservation practices and techniques, management of ag wells and pump-efficiency techniques, as well as information on available programs and resources for agricultural operations.
The session featured presentations by expert speakers, including Scott De Leon, Lake County Water Resources; Nancy Comstock, Pump Efficiency Testing Services; Korinn Woodard, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service; Katie Delbar and Karri Bartolomei, both with USDA Farm Service Agency; Jack Rice, California Farm Bureau Federation; and Glenn McGourty and Rachel Elkins, both with the University of California Cooperative Extension.
Lake County Farm Bureau President Marc Hooper facilitated the day’s session.
The forum wrapped up with a panel discussion moderated by Lake County Winegrape Commission’s Education Director Paul Zellman and featured Jeff Lyon, Winegrape Commission director, vineyard owner and viticulturist; David Giese, David Giese Well Drilling; and Broc Zoller, The Pear Doctor and a Winegrape Commission director.
