CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Clearlake City Council is planning a special meeting this week to ratify a local emergency declaration regarding the big storm that hit last Thursday.
The council will meet beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, in the council chambers at Clearlake City Hall, 14050 Olympic Drive.
A heavy rainstorm that hit the city on Dec. 11 brought several inches of rain, and led to widespread flooding and the closure of local schools, as Lake County News has reported.
Some of the residents from the Village neighborhood along Cache Creek had to be evacuated due to high water. Red Cross set up an evacuation center at Lower Lake High School because the Clearlake Senior Center was not easily accessible due to the flooding.
In response to the storm, City Manager Joan Phillipe – who also acts as the city's director of emergency services – declared a local emergency.
The council is expected to ratify her declaration at Thursday's meeting and set the next review for the proclamation for the regular council meeting on Thursday, Jan. 8.
Another outcome of the Dec. 11 storm was the cancellation of that evening's council meeting.
The council will hold another special meeting, beginning at 6 p.m. next Monday, Dec. 22, to swear in new council members Russell Perdock and Bruno Sabatier, and to take up other business that was on the agenda for the Dec. 11 meeting.
