Carlé Chronicle: Countdown to graduation

carleheader

LOWER LAKE, Calif. – On Thursday, May 7, Danny Salvante and Kenny Kalousek, both good friends, presented their senior portfolios and are both now graduates. Carlé High School congratulates them on their success.

The student of the week this week was Kristin Melcher. Last week's student of the week was Doyle Conatser.

Prom was held at Carlé on Friday, May 8, with “Monte Carlo” being the theme for the prom. The prom went well and our students and guests enjoyed themselves.

Carlé would like to thank Andre Ari a.k.a D.J Cutter for coming to the prom and doing such a great job with both the music and his light show. Student Chris Nuzzo made a thank you plaque for him.

In addition the wonderful Gary Oakes brought in his professional blackjack table and dealt cards the whole night of prom. If a student won a hand they got a ticket and at the end of the evening everyone redeemed their tickets for prizes and gift certificates from our student based enterprise.

Student Candace Safreno made a plaque for Gary thanking him for his kindness and generosity.

A few students had this to say:

“Prom was pretty great, the casino theme was awesome,” said Sam Retallack.

“I enjoyed the prom and the DJ. The light set up and activities set up were awesome,” said Doyle Conatser.

“I believe it was a major success, the students seemed to have a great time dancing and socializing. Smiles and laughter was everywhere to be seen,” said Riley Nielsen.

Graduation for Carlé is May 27. Graduation for the adult school is on May 28.

Last week Carlé introduced two new students Jason Acevedo and Breanna Perry. Carlé welcomes them with arms wide open.

The CHILY winner last week was Kristin Melcher and she chose the basketball.

All 11th graders tested from April 27 to May 1.

Students had this to say:

“The testing was hard but I was able to get through it. They could’ve made a few improvements but overall the testing went well,” said Gage Fowler.

“It wasn’t that bad, it was actually pretty easy,” said Jerome Snipes.

“The testing was all right. It wasn’t too hard,” said Nick McKay.

The students did the new testing on the Chromebooks led by teachers Dan Maes and Robin Shrive.

On the second day of testing the school had some technical difficulties due to a transformer outage. Our students showed great patience and understanding and we were able to get it back up and running.

The final gold level trip of the year was Monday, May 10, and the students took a trip to Safari West.

The teachers who took our students were Alan Siegel and Dan Maes.

After a Jeep tour and a walking tour there was a picnic lunch. The trip was a success and the students enjoyed themselves.

“The tour was amazing,” said Doyle Conatser.

“I found the trip to be very entertaining. It was great seeing so many different animals,” said Jose Bendana.

“It was fun and cool seeing all the cool animals and the monkeys were so cute. I think every one should go see Safari West,” said Candice Safreno.

This week was teacher appreciation week and Mr. Strahl baked cookies, gave 100 grand and payday bars, and barbecued for the teachers. The teachers truly appreciated Mr. Strahl’s kindness.

On May 15 our principal Matt Strahl took seven students to the Worth Our Wait – or “WOW” – program. Students Doyle Conatser, Angel Hernandez, Kristin Melcher, Chris Nuzzo, Jorge Ornate, Maria Pineda and Devyn Viale attended.

Doyle Conatser is a student at Carlé Continuation High School in Lower Lake, Calif.
