LAKEPORT, Calif. – On Saturday, Feb. 6, five Clear Lake Cardinals went to the Redwood Empire Classic Wrestling Tournament and came away with two first, one third and two fourth places.

The day’s event featured three tournaments at once: varsity boys, girls and JV boys.

Girls

Emily Psalmonds went 4-0 on the day, taking first place in the 106-pound girls' division, with three pins.

Psalmonds now has a combined record of 22 wins and six losses, with only one loss coming against an NCS opponent while wrestling up at 112 pounds.

Psalmonds is now the No. 3 seed going into this upcoming Girls North Coast Sections Qualifying Tournament in Albany, where the top three placers will move on to the Girls State Championships.   

Alicia Ledesma took first place in the 111-pound girls division, with two pins. Ledesma has a combined record of 13 and 8, with only two losses against her at the 111-pound weight class and only one of those against an NCS opponent. 

Ledesma (or Dez as her teammates know her) is now the No. 5 seed at the upcoming Girls NCS qualifying tournament.

Haily Vinson took third place, with two pins, in the 235-pound girls division.

Boys

Isaac Lewis went 3-2 on the day, with two pins, to take a fourth place medal.

He faced some fierce competition, including an epic battle against a league opponent from Middletown that he had not yet beaten, but finally overcame in a 10-to-9 victory to advance to his final round.

For the JV boys, Brandon Dickey took fourth place in his 134-pound bracket, with one pin.
