LAKEPORT, Calif. – Imagine yourself sitting on a blanket in the grassy shade of Library Park in downtown Lakeport, with beautiful Clear Lake shimmering in front of you.
Suddenly the “shrewd and knavish sprite” Puck prances across the stage, spreading mischief.
You will be watching Shakespeare’s comedy, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” presented by Mendocino College with the Lake County Theatre Co.
One of Shakespeare’s most endearing and popular plays will be the inaugural “Shakespeare at the Lake” play produced by the Northern California Shakespeare Festival. This romantic romp will play with Lake County’s fantastic scenery as a natural backdrop.
Performances at Library Park will take place on Saturday, July 30, and Sunday, July 31, at 6:30 p.m. and are free to the public. Reserved seating will be available. Save the dates on your calendar now so that you won’t miss this lovely night of enchantment.
As the production gets under way, Mendocino College Lake Center and the Lake County Theater Co. are announcing the opening of auditions for the play.
The cast features more than 20 speaking roles, and numerous other walk on parts.
If you have wanted to play a Shakespearean role, or just participate in a play, this is your chance. No prior acting experience is required.
Auditions will be held at Mendocino College Lake Center, 2565 Parallel Drive, Lakeport, on Monday, June 6, and Wednesday, June 8 at 6 p.m. in the round building.
Further auditions and callbacks will be held at the campus on Saturday, June 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Audition materials are available in the Mendocino College Lake Center lobby, and on Facebook at “Mendocino College presents Shakespeare at the Lake.”
Rehearsals will be held at night and on weekends during late June and all of July.
