HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE, Calif. – The HVL Men’s Niners Golf Club held a stroke-play tournament on Thursday, Sept. 19.

The results were as follows:

  • First flight: Bill Kyle, Dave Mann and Bill Brewster tied for the top spots at 35.
  • Second flight: Ned Munger and Mike Higman tied for first with 33. Doug Healy was third with 34.
  • Third flight: Hal Weber was first, 33. Kerry Flynn was second, 34, and Phil Tyler was third, 35.

Closest to the par 3 pins were Bob Chesnut and Jerry Tamura.

Chip-ins were scored by Paul Bertlin and Sam DeBone.

Fifty-one men participated in this event.

BOGGS MOUNTAIN, Calif. – The Friends of Boggs Mountain will be offering a two and one-quarter mile hike on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 9 a.m.

The hike will be on various Boggs trails, moderately paced on moderate terrain and will be led by Darlene Hecomovich.

There is a diverse array of nature’s handiwork on display in the forest from Douglas's Dwarf Mistletoe to Boggs Mountain Andesite as well as California Goldenrod, the last of summer’s wildflowers.

Take advantage of this opportunity to exercise while enjoying the wonders of nature.

Wear sturdy shoes, dress appropriately for weather conditions, and bring water and enthusiasm. Meet at the parking lot kiosk promptly at 9 a.m.

The forest entrance is located off Highway 175 just one and a half miles north of Cobb Village. Turn at the blue State Fire Station/Boggs Mountain Forest sign.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Lake County Special Olympics has several upcoming meetings and events planned this fall.

A Lake County Special Olympics organizational meeting will take place from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Lakeside Family Fun Center, 872 Lakeport Blvd. in Lakeport.

On the same day, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., also at Lakeside Family Fun Center, there will be a bowling coach certification.

This is a certification/training for all those volunteers who might be able to help with the fall bowling season, ending with the annual Lake County Bowling Tournament on Nov. 23.

The Lake County Special Olympics bowling season takes place from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays from Sept. 21 through Nov. 23 at Lakeside Family Fun Center.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – On Saturday, Sept. 21, the Redbud Audubon Society will be hosting a field trip to the Rio Lindo Academy in Healdsburg.

The group will travel to view the Vaux’s Swifts that use the brick chimney at the academy as a way station en route from as far away as Alaska.

HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE, Calif. – Fifty-nine players of the Hidden Valley Lake Men's Niners Golf Club participated in a team Pinehurst tournament at Hidden Valley Golf Course on Thursday, Sept. 5.

The results are as follows.

  • A flight: First place went to Cliff Hughes/Bill Surber with a net 30; tied for second place were Bruce Hamilton/Bill Kyle, Bill Brewster/Randy Brown and Arch Madsen/Stan Kalata with a net 31. Third place went to Woody Frink/Scott Mcallister.
  • B flight results: First place went to Al Burrows/Phil Tyler with the lowest score of the day, net 27. Second place was Jim Hodges/Jay Hodges net 30,and third place went to Ron Clark/Brian Panizzera with a net of 31.

Closest to pins went to Cliff Hughes and Arch Madsen.

Jerry Tamura and Doug Healy had chip-ins.
