Berg receives 'Legislator of the Year' award from senior group

SACRAMENTO – As she prepares to leave the Assembly at the conclusion of her third term, Assemblywoman Patty Berg on Tuesday accepted a Legislator of the Year Award from the California Association of Adult Day Services (CAADS).

The award, presented prior to an emergency session on the state budget, was the 14th such honor Berg has received during her six years in the state Assembly.

CAADS represents adult day health care providers from across the state.

Berg, as chair of the Assembly Committee on Aging and Long-Term Care, was a key voice in the Legislature on senior issues, providing consistent support for the kind of services that help older people stay healthy and stay in their homes.

“Adult day services” describes a range of professional and medical services provided to older adults, particularly those with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.

CAADS members presented Berg with a boxed diorama featuring a nature scene made entirely from natural materials. The inscription reads: “In grateful appreciation of your outstanding dedication, commitment and personal leadership in supporting the participants and families who rely on adult day services.”

“It’s lovely, and I’m very grateful,” said Berg.

Berg’s third term in the state Assembly concludes at midnight, Nov. 30.
