Be prepared to be thrilled, scared and just have a good time as the Lake County Arts Council once again presents Children's Art Day at Museum Park in Lakeport on Saturday, Oct. 25.
Students in grades kindergarten through sixth are invited to create a scarecrow to display at the park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Each participating class receives $25 from the artists council to fashion their scarecrow and each year the students become more inventive with anxious children waiting to see if they will receive first, second or third prize as onlookers cast their ballots for People's Choice.
The always popular potters Frances and Francis of Creative Clay in Kelseyville will return to give children a turn at the wheel. These skillful potters are a joy to watch as they guide children through the process of creating their very own piece of pottery to show off to their family and friends. This is fun day of interactive art and games, and Phil Mathewson and friends' rhythm and drumming skills will add to this year's event.
Magician Phillip Martin returns to amaze the crowd with his slight of hand while chalk artists fill the sidewalks, faces are painted and everyone enjoys Halloween fun and games.
Youth Writes, in conjunction with Children's Creative Art Day, will host a poetry and prose open mic at the event. Bring a favorite poem or story to read; scary or harvest themes are encouraged. The event is open to all Lake County students.
