HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE, Calif. – To put the “give” in Thanksgiving, the Lake County Milers running club is offering all runners and walkers an opportunity to donate food items at its ninth annual Turkey Trot, a fun run/walk and raffle on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, at 9 a.m., in Hidden Valley Lake.
Nonperishable food items will be collected by Boy Scouts Troop 315 and donated to Season of Sharing, which gives out boxes of food to needy families during the holidays.
The free, family-oriented event (costumes are encouraged) is open to all Lake County residents, friends and relatives.
It starts and finishes at Hardester’s shopping center (take Hartmann Road exit off Highway 29, about four miles north of Middletown) and includes a noncompetitive two-mile walk or a three-mile jog. All participants must sign a waiver, with adults signing for youths under age 18.
The Milers encourage participants to donate nonperishable food items to a worthy local cause. Entrants who bring nonexpired canned and boxed food (no jars, please) including pasta, dried beans, vegetables, tuna, potted meat and soups will be entered in a raffle held after the trot.
Raffle prizes are donated by Hardester’s Markets, Mountain High Coffee, Chic Le Chef and the Milers.
The Milers will provide hot beverages, juices, pastries and fruit.
“Don’t miss this chance to get a little exercise and some socializing with family and friends before sitting down for the Thanksgiving feast,” said Milers President Jeanine Burnett.
