If the money is there the BOS better listen to Rivero and give him what he needs to run the jail. You cannot criticize the Sheriff if he does not have the necessary tools. But those positions will not be filled soon. As Rivero has stated, by the time you are finished with the hiring, background check and training it will take 4-5 months before they can fill them, assuming they all pass. Luckily we also have an Undersheriff with lots of knowledge on how to run a jail so that will help.

Justwondering, sometime, if you only have to cover few positions, it is cheaper to cover them with overtime than hiring new people if you factor the full cost of each position (salary, vacation, sick leave, medical, uniform allowance, etc). Once you need to cover 8-10 positions those savings disappear and the toll on the workers such as stress and fatigue overrides any savings. And those conditions can easily lead to injuries to the CO and inmates. Which in turn it will lead to unsafe conditions lawsuits.

My question is where is the state money? As usual in Sacramento they pass laws increasing the burden on cities and counties but they conveniently forget to provide them with the funds necessary to cover them.
You don't have to be a Governor Moonbeam or a rocket scientist to solve the state problems by dumping them on somebody else budget. - Marzocco

They are also low on kitchen staff, and Aids, It makes since to hire the position instead of paying a huge amount of overtime and having stressed, over worked officers. Which results in more injury and illness. - justwondering
