LAKEPORT, Calif. – Lake County Sheriff’s patrol deputies responded to Sutter Lakeside Hospital Sunday morning for a juvenile assault victim, which has resulted in one arrest.
Witnesses identified 19-year-old Jason Matthew Sabol of Lakeport as the suspect, according to Lt. Steve Brooks.
Witnesses reported that Sabol had walked up to the 16-year-old victim, called him a name and proceeded to assault the victim. Sabol was reportedly intoxicated at the time, Brooks said.
During the altercation Sabol and the alleged victim both fell to the ground and when victim stood up he said he had been stabbed, Brooks said. The victim was then transported to the hospital by friends, who were also at the party.
Early Sunday morning deputies responded to Sutter Lakeside Hospital for the reported assault victim. At the hospital they contacted the alleged victim, who was suffering from what appeared to be a puncture wound and a laceration to the chest, according to Brooks. The victim was unable provide any information as to who was responsible for causing the injuries.
Brooks said witnesses told deputies there was a party on Cow Mountain which was attended by a lot of people, some of whom were drinking alcoholic beverages and smoking marijuana.
Deputies contacted Sabol, who said he was at the party on Cow Mountain with his girlfriend. He noticed a male subject was instigating fights between some of the females who were attending the party, including his girlfriend, Brooks said.
Sabol explained he approached the subject and asked him to stop instigating the fights. Sabol said the subject punched him in the head, which knocked him down to the ground. Brooks said the subject then got on top of him and started to strike him repeatedly in the face.
Brooks said Sabol explained he had never been punched like that before and became scared for his life. Sabol said out of self-defense, he stabbed the subject twice in the chest.
Sabol was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, transported to the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility and booked. Brooks said the stabbing victim was transported by air ambulance to a trauma center located out of the county.
At the time of the transport he was listed in critical condition, Brooks said.
