NORTHERN CALIFORNIA – Firefighters were at work on Saturday battling 15 major wildland fires around California.
More than 3,000 firefighters were on the front lines of the incidents, according to Cal Fire.
At the same time, excessive heat continued to be a factor in many parts of the state.
The following is a roundup of major fire incidents around Northern California as of late Saturday.
WALL FIRE
Location: Butte County, off Chinese Wall Road, 5 miles north of Bangor
Size: 2,700 acres, 20 percent contained
Start date: Friday, July 7
Structures threatened: 500
Damage: 10 structures destroyed, five damaged
Resources assigned: 1,086 fire personnel: 169 fire engines; 32 fire crews; seven helicopters; 19 dozers; 16 water tenders
Injuries: Four
Evacuations remain in effect.
WINTERS FIRE
Location: Yolo County, Highway 128 at Pleasant View Road, 3 miles southwest of Winters
Size: 2,269 acres, 75 percent contained
Start date: Thursday, July 6
Injuries: 3
Resources assigned: 777 fire personnel; 65 fire engines; 29 fire crews; five helicopters; one dozer; seven water tenders
No evacuation orders in place.
DEER COMPLEX
Location: Contra Costa County, Deer Valley Road and Marsh Creek Road, west of Brentwood
Size: Three separate fires totaling 225 acres, 80 percent contained
Start date: Saturday, July 8
ISLAND FIRE
Location: Siskiyou County, 14 miles west of Etna in the Marble Mountain Wilderness
Size: 567 acres
Start date: Sunday, June 25
Cause: Lightning
Resources assigned: 47 personnel
Estimated containment date: Sunday, Oct. 1
SCHAEFFER FIRE
Location: Tulare County, 17 miles north of Kernville
Size: 12,268 acres, 10 percent contained
Start date: Saturday, June 24
Cause: Lightning
Resources assigned: 722 personnel
