KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The drivers of two vehicles and two passengers of a Lake Transit bus suffered minor injuries in a three-vehicle wreck near Kelseyville on Tuesday.
The California Highway Patrol’s Clear Lake Area office said the crash occurred just before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 29 at Bottle Rock Road.
The wreck involved a 2008 Honda driven by Evelyn Mullen, 64, of Kelseyville; a 1994 Honda driven by 44-year-old Lisa Gentry of Clearlake; and a 2015 Freightliner Lake Transit bus driven by Clearlake Oaks resident William Jessip, 73, the CHP said.
The CHP said Mullen was traveling northbound on Highway 29 and had stopped for a vehicle making a left turn onto Bottle Rock Road. Several other vehicles slowed and stopped behind Mullen.
Gentry was traveling southbound and approaching Bottle Rock Road, while Jessip was driving the bus northbound when he came upon the stopped traffic, the CHP said.
Jessip was unable to stop and swerved left into the opposing lane of traffic to avoid rear-ending the traffic that was stopped behind Mullen, according to the CHP report.
The CHP said Jessip swerved directly into Gentry’s path then turned right, back to the northbound lane, where the bus collided with both Mullen’s and Gentry’s vehicles.
The bus then continued to the northwest, traveling up a hillside along the west side of the highway, going through a wire fence before it came to rest, the CHP said.
Lake Transit passengers Sharon Triplett, 69, and Cheryl Lewis, 58, both of Clearlake, suffered minor injuries and were transported to Sutter Lakeside Hospital, while Jessip was uninjured, the CHP reported.
Gentry and Mullen also had minor injuries; the CHP said Gentry was taken to Sutter Lakeside but Mullen did not go to the hospital.
The CHP said it does not believe alcohol was a contributing factor, and reported that all of the drivers and passengers were using their safety equipment.
Officer Brett Wade is investigating the wreck, the CHP said.
