LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Members of the Clear Lake Trowel and Trellis Garden Club worked for several days last week to make wreaths for the club’s annual Christmas fundraising project, co-chaired this year by President Leanne Harvey and member Nancy Benkelman.
Greenery is collected from members’ gardens and fashioned into beautiful and fresh wreaths to fill orders obtained over the preceding weeks.
The wreaths are fashioned from a large variety of locally sourced greens and are trimmed with a variety of colorful ribbons.
The garden club donates proceeds from the sales of their talented holiday handiwork towards local projects, including scholarships for deserving youth interested in obtaining a degree in horticulture or agriculture, and local civic beautification.
Currently, the club has greatly increased their involvement in civil beautification, with members giving their time, gardening expertise, and donations to four local projects.
These include the plantings under the Blue Star Memorial next to the Lakeport Veteran’s Building, three flower beds at the Lakeport Library, the Hartley Cemetery Chapel Grounds and two prominent round flower beds in Lakeport’s Library Park.
To place early wreath orders for next year, or for more information about the garden club call President Leanne Harvey at 707-263-0850 or visit www.CLTTGC.org .
Prospective members are welcome to attend the regularly scheduled meetings held at noon on the third Tuesday of every month, except July and August, at the Scotts Valley Women’s Clubhouse, 2298 Hendricks Road, Lakeport.
CLTTGC is a member of the Mendo-Lake District, CA Garden Club Inc., Pacific Region and National Garden Clubs Inc.
