LAKEPORT, Calif. – Members of the Clear Lake Trowel and Trellis Garden Club recently planted and spruced up a couple of areas at the Lake County Fairgrounds.

The club supports the tradition of the Lake County Fair and wanted to help prepare the grounds for public enjoyment.

Barbara Swanson, chair of the project, said participating in civic beautification is part of the club's mission statement.

“Whenever we can physically and monetarily support a project, we do it,” she said. “Our members have a lot of fun interning the horticulture and crafts sections so we wanted to give back and help make the grounds inviting. The theme of the Fair, opening Aug. 31, is 'It's Boots & Bling' and we want the grounds to bling!”

Trowel and Trellis is a member of the Mendo-Lake District of the California Garden Club Inc.-Pacific Region and National Garden Clubs Inc.

The club meets the third Tuesday of the month from September to June.
