LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Each year at this time, a very creative, energetic, civic-minded group of ladies start getting busy on their biggest fundraiser of the year, the Mad Hatter Fashion Show and Luncheon.
This year the event takes place on April 28.
These women, from the Lakeport Women’s Civic Club, go knocking on doors and soliciting gifts, prizes and wine from all of our local businesses who give very generously so that we might hold auctions and sell raffle tickets to provide money for important causes all around Lake County.
Every year the LWCC offers two $1,000 scholarships for young people who wish to attend a vocational school as they do not believe that everyone has their sights set on a four-year degree and there are so many other critically important careers choices available.
This year, LWCC provided funding for washing machines at Lake County Family Resource Center in Kelseyville as well as cash for Operation Tango Mike and Northlake Adult Day Care Center, Veterans Honor Guard and VFW Post 2015, and the Rotary Club Fire Relief Fund for victims of the Sulphur fire.
Over the years LWCC has provided tens of thousands of dollars to projects like Westside Park, Victim Witness Program, Friends of the Library, Lake County Veterans Honor Guard and most recently the Rocky/Jerusalem/Valley Fire Relief Fund.
This is the 25th annual Mad Hatter Fashion Show and Luncheon and it will be held at Boatique Winery in Kelseyville.
The group’s first luncheon took place at the Lakeport Senior Center and has since graced the likes of The Thompson House, Konocti Harbor Inn, the Lodge at Blue Lakes and Rancho de la Fuente, just to name a few.
Each year they choose a different theme and dress accordingly. They have never repeated the same theme in 25 years. Can you imagine how much fun they had at the Fabulous 50s luncheon or the Kentucky Derby, or Polynesian Fantasy or Queen of Hearts?
This year the theme is Roaring Twenties. There will be a luncheon catered by Bar S BBQ followed by a fashion show featuring Oak Boutique of downtown Kelseyville as well as a lively auction and distribution of raffle prizes.
Tickets for this annual event are sold out but the LWCC volunteers are still soliciting donations and contributions and would love to hear from you.
