LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is warning community members about a new scam.

Lt. Rich Ward said the agency has become aware of a telephone scam where you may receive a call on your home or cellular telephone from a local number.

The caller identifies themselves as a “Lake County Sheriff’s deputy” and advises that you have missed jury duty, according to Ward.

Ward said the caller indicates there is a warrant for your arrest that can be removed from the system if you immediately pay over the telephone.

The sheriff’s office reminds everyone that you should not give out personal or account information to anyone who calls you without being able to verify the caller’s identity.
