HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE, Calif. – Loren Spivack, the Free Market Warrior, added a new dimension to the thinking of Lake County Republican Women and their guests as they met for lunch on May 9 in the Greenview Room in Hidden Valley Lake.

With an opening lesson in the scientific science of population with reference to theories by Thomas Malthus and Paul Ehrlich, Spivack launched into the seriousness of our world today with facts and humor. He referenced Ehrlich's earlier theory that the United States can only support the population of 150 million. Today the population is 325.71 million. The theorists will always be with us.

Next, Spivak addressed the economics of today by explaining economics is the branch of knowledge concerned with the production, consumption and transfer of wealth.

Explaining how the world has dealt and is dealing with growing populations that theorists of the past declared could not exist, he made several points. First is innovation through ideas, testing and more ideas as people are no longer afraid of failure, as possible successive failures bring in more ideas and then often comes a great success for all humanity. Even if 99 percent of ideas fail, it is the 1% that moves us forward.

Secondly, when we spread knowledge the entire populace benefits.

Now enters the miracle of capitalism which is pro-life – God's gift to each other. We also need to be aware of humanism and anti-humanism. Searching into the goals of the do-gooders we find in organizations such as environmental and climate change groups, there are those who proclaim the world will end if their recommendations are not followed.

Spivack reviewed current history of the socialist conditions in China 20 years ago. When China's policy moved to capitalism, no longer one child per family, opening of world markets, we see today a prospering China. India has also moved more to capitalism that is benefiting it. Venezuela is in great turmoil due to its socialist policies.

From such reviews one can only conclude that socialism makes people poorer. In our country we want to raise people up from poverty, not lower then into depths of hell on earth.

Bringing things down to state level, actions by Gov. Jerry Brown were brought to the forefront with a quick review of the depletion of water situation and the non-drilling aspect.

Spivack has presented his “Economic Literacy” seminar to over 200 groups throughout the United States. He is also an author of note, and all had an opportunity to view three of his truth telling books: The Wizard of IZ, The New Democrat and The Gorax.

It is always good to know what first time attendees think about LCRWF, and I quote one lady who attended on May 9. “Thank you for inviting me to this LCRWF meeting. To start, everyone was so friendly. I had the pleasure of meeting new people. Your guest speaker was just great! It was a learning experience for me.” LCRWF thank her for her comments.

The next meeting of LCRWF will be June 13 in the Lakeport area.

Leona M. Butts is vice president and publicity chair for Lake County Republican Women, Federated.
