LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – With summer’s high temperatures approaching, here’s a reminder that Pacific Gas and Electric’s Medical Baseline Allowance can help customers with special cooling or heating needs receive extra energy at the lowest price.
The program offers eligible participants a “standard” Medical Baseline quantity of approximately 500 kilowatt-hours (kwh) of electricity and/or 25 therms of gas per month, in addition to regular Baseline quantities.
In a brief two-page application, the program requires that a California-licensed physician certify that a full-time resident in the home has a qualifying medical condition.
Examples range from dependency on eligible life-support equipment used at home (such as power wheelchairs, concentrators, pressure pads and pumps, or other equipment) to those with paraplegia, hemiplegia, quadriplegia, multiple sclerosis, scleroderma, or other life-threatening illnesses or compromised immune systems and require special cooling and/or heating to sustain life or prevent medical deterioration.
Individuals with advanced energy needs based upon medical condition may also be able to apply for even higher baseline allowances on a case-by-case basis. To learn more or apply, contact PG&E at 1-800-743-5000 or visit PG&E online.
