LAKEPORT, Calif. – Carly Alvord, Dan Buffalo and Jennifer Hanson – running as a team for seats on the Lakeport Unified School District Governing Board on Nov. 6 – have announced a basic three-point action plan that outlines steps they will take upon joining the board.
These actions represent key positions of their platform, and begin to address the concerns voiced by the community.
Their proposed actions are as follows.
Teachers leaving: Build respect and investigate causes
Rebuild relationships between teachers, volunteers, administrators and the school board. Start by forming a committee to meet with each group in confidence, where opinions and experiences can be shared without fear of retaliation.
The committee will then report its findings to the full board, and take action as needed.
Fiscal management: Re-prioritize and listen to voters
Immediately pause all projects not currently under construction to conduct a full review of priorities.
Public sessions will be held to allow for community engagement to determine what to do with the remaining bond funds.
Student and teacher safety: Review and address discipline policy
Start a complete review of the district’s discipline policy to determine how it has been implemented and how it can be improved.
And, ensure that common-sense disciplinary practices are in place and being followed to reduce disruptions to the classroom learning environment so that students, volunteers and teachers feel supported and safe.
