NORTHERN CALIFORNIA – At the request of Butte County Animal Control, the Humane Society of the United States has sent an initial team, which is now on the ground, to provide sheltering support for evacuated, rescued and displaced animals from the Camp fire area.

Additional personnel are on standby, ready to assist.

The Humane Society of the United States will continue to work with impacted shelters through our Shelter and Rescue Partner Program to transport animals up for adoption prior to the fires out of harm’s way as wildfires threaten the state.

Additionally, the HSUS has provided grants to several organizations and shelters including Ventura County Animal Services, Ruff Valley Animal Refuge and the Red Cross for supplies for evacuees’ pets and pets found without their owners.

The HSUS has also gifted funds to feed evacuee horses.

The Humane Society of the United States is urging families in threatened areas to make a disaster plan and preparedness kit for their animals, including pets, horses and farm animals.

“We are heartbroken for the people and animals in California who are in peril due to the wildfires,” said Crystal Moreland, California state director for the Humane Society of the United States. “We are committed to supporting those impacted through our work to support shelters that are caring for evacuated, rescued and displaced animals and all other ways we can lend a hand.”
