Inspirational Hike of HOPE slated for early May

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Lake Family Resource Center's California Hope project, a short-term community based project helping Lake County residents recover from recent wildfires, is hosting a Hike of HOPE on Saturday, May 11, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

Participants will hike up to six miles round-trip on the Wright Summit Trail. It is considered difficult due to the 1,600 foot elevation gain.

All are welcome to join in on the full hike or a portion. Participants are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes, bring a reusable water bottle, lunch, a sunhat and sunscreen. Water and snacks will be provided.

Dogs, glass, smoking, alcohol and fires are prohibited at the event.

"The event is an opportunity for community connection and inspiration," noted Lisa Morrow, executive director of Lake Family Resource Center. "We chose Mount Konocti for its all encompassing views that can help put the recent disasters into a possibly different perspective. Yes, a lot of Lake County has been impacted and it is still an amazingly beautiful and resilient land and community."

In addition to the hike, participants of the family friendly event are invited to write a vision of hope for themselves, their communities or Lake County as a whole on a 'Banner of HOPE' that will be available at the event and then travel around the county at different events.

A free give away featuring a two night stay at Robinson Rancheria, annual state park passes, emergency to go kits and more will be held on the day of the event. Hikers will have various opportunities for free entries into the give away, including a bonus entry for pre-registering for the event.

In preparation for the Hike of HOPE, Lake Family Resource Center Cal HOPE teams are hosting weekly Walks of HOPE during the month of April at various locations throughout the county.

"These events are one of many ways the Lake FRC California HOPE team is offering support to Lake County residents," said Jessica Windrem, an outreach worker for the project. "We also host casual weekly 'Cup of HOPE' gatherings in Clearlake Oaks, Upper Lake, Lakeport and Clearlake Riviera, as well as twice monthly groups in Lakeport and Upper Lake."
