LAKEPORT, Calif. – At its December meeting, the Lake County History Roundtable will host a discussion on America before Columbus.
The roundtable will meet at 6:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, at Country Air Properties, located at 460 S. Main St. in Lakeport.
Zane Jensen, cofounder of the roundtable and a history teacher at Terrace Middle School who recently obtained his master’s degree in history, will explore what was going on in America prior to the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1492.
Jensen will try to answer a series of questions:
– Were the Native Americans living peacefully, or were they also immigrants from Eurasia who brought their own forms of slavery, genocide, disease and conquest with them?
– Did the various tribes get along in peaceful co-existence, or were they in continuous war with one another and enslaving each other, just like people have done everywhere in the world throughout history?
– Should Columbus be honored or denigrated?
Admission is free, and everyone is welcome to attend and participate.
The Lake County History Roundtable meets on the first Monday of the month in Lakeport.
