Lyon leads park walk March 3

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – On March 3 join Volunteer-in-Park Walt Lyon for a walk on the Indian Nature Trail in Clear Lake State Park.

Meet Lyon at the Park Entrance Kiosk lot at 9 a.m. Wear sturdy walking shoes for safety on the hillside ascent of this intriguing trail.

There is no entrance fee to the park for participating in docent led walks. However, rain will cancel.

Seasonal changes are taking place rapidly in the landscape as plants and animals respond to nature’s spring season of renewal.

Lyon, who understands the history of the park and the importance of maintaining it for future generations, will describe how Native Americans used the natural resources along the trail to enrich and sustain their lives.

Many plants were used for both medicinal purposes and as a food source. Find out which plants were used to help catch fish.

The Indian Nature Trail was built in 1959 for a mere $1,000 to give park visitors a great walking experience, as well as showing the importance of the natural resources in the park.

Bring your camera and capture the color and intricate beauty of the wildflowers leaning into the morning sunlight, and mark your calendar, now, for the Clear Lake State Park Interpretive Association’s Wildflower Brunch that is slated for April 28 at the Park.

For brunch reservations visit www.clspia.org or call 707-279-4395.

Clear Lake State Park Interpretive Association sponsors walks year-round on the first Saturday of each month.

Clear Lake State Park is located at 5300 Soda Bay Road, Kelseyville.
