Mendocino County’s ‘Human Race’ set for May 5

UKIAH, Calif. – It’s time to sign up for Mendocino County’s annual Human Race on Saturday, May 5, in downtown Ukiah.

The Human Race, coordinated by North Coast Opportunities, is a nationwide community 5K run and walk composed of teams raising funds for local nonprofit organizations.

With the many cutbacks in vital services throughout Mendocino County, there are dozens of nonprofits that can use your support.

It’s easy. First, pick the Mendocino County nonprofit you want to support. Second, register your team and decide if you and or your kids and teammates want to run or walk. Third, raise money from friends and relatives to donate to your nonprofit. Then turn in the money at Bank Night at NCO on April 30 from 3 to 6 p.m.

Join your team and dozens of others at the starting line at Alex Thomas Plaza on May 5 at 9 a.m.

Categories to participate are the 5k adult and child walk, 5K adult run, 5k child run, and the “Kids Fun Run.”

Entrants are expected to raise at least $25 each.

Each child and adult runner pays $30 if registration is received by April 24, or $35 on Race Day. A family rate for immediate family runners is $70.

Winners receive distance awards and prizes. Everyone who meets the minimum donation receives a commemorative T-shirt.

Any business or entity which would like to sponsor this worthy event is welcome. Any business or nonprofit that would like to join the Human Race Marketplace and set up a booth in Alex Thomas Plaza, the fee is $50 for businesses, free to nonprofits before April 18.

Coffee and pastries are available at the starting line and a taco truck and fun at the finish line.
