Church offers to perform same-sex marriage ceremonies

LAKE COUNTY – The Unitarian Universalist Community of Lake County (UUCLC) has announced it will perform marriage ceremonies involving same-sex couples.

"Our faith has always welcomed people with diverse beliefs and striven for social justice for all people," says Carol Cole-Lewis, president of the community, "We are an open and affirming community and support same-sex marriages and their families."

The Unitarian Universalist Association's Office of Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian and Transgender Concerns (UUA OBGLTC) works to foster acceptance, inclusion, understanding and equity for bisexual, gay, lesbian and/or transgender persons of all colors, races, and ethnicities, both within the UUA and in society at large.

In addition, Interweave, a membership organization affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association, is dedicated to the spiritual, political, and social well-being of Unitarian Universalists who are confronting oppression as lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender persons and their heterosexual allies; and facilitates the celebration of the culture and lives of its members.

The Unitarian Universalist Legislative Ministry, based in Sacramento, has been at the fore-front of the recent movement to win equal rights for same-sex marriage.

Any couple regardless of their sexual orientation wishing to arrange a marriage ceremony can contact the UUCLC by email using This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., or by phone at 278-0254. For details about the UUCLC, visit uuclc.org.
