LAKEPORT, Calif. – This week the Board of Supervisors will consider an appeal for a new Dollar General store in Kelseyville, continue a discussion on plans for a sprint boat race on Clear Lake and take up a proposed contract for indigent defense services.
The board will meet beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, in the board chambers on the first floor of the Lake County Courthouse, 255 N. Forbes St., Lakeport.
The meeting can be watched live on Channel 8 and online at http://www.co.lake.ca.us/Government/Boards/Board_of_Supervisors/calendar.htm . Accompanying board documents, the agenda and archived board meeting videos also are available at that link.
At 10 a.m., the board will hold a public hearing to consider the appeal filed by Cross Development of the Lake County Planning Commission’s February decision to deny a mitigated negative declaration, major use permit and design review for a 9,100-square-foot Dollar General Store at 9781 Point Lakeview Road in the Clear Lake Riviera area of Kelseyville.
Last week, the board granted Cross Development’s appeal for a Dollar General store project in Middletown that the commission also had turned down for the second time in January, as Lake County News has reported.
Also on Tuesday, in an item timed for 9:30 a.m., the board will continue its consideration of the appeal by Clear Lake Motorsports Enterprises of Sheriff Brian Martin’s decision to deny a permit for the Lakeport Sprint Boat Grand Prix in Lakeport June 2 to 4.
While Martin said he believes the event will be a good one, he said the promoter had failed to submit a permit application to him, and he also had concerns about liability.
The board held an initial discussion of the appeal last week, but held it over until this Tuesday due to continuing issues with agreeing on the amount of insurance the event will require. The insurance company that works with the risk sharing pool to which the county belongs advised that it should be $10 million.
The board also will need to consider an administrative encroachment permit to allow the race area on Clear Lake to be cordoned off.
In other news on Tuesday, the board will consider a contract for indigent defense services with Lake Indigent Defense. The proposed annual contract amount is $1,320,000.
