Police sweep targets vehicle code violations

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Clearlake Police Department recently conducted a vehicle enforcement sweep to deal with state vehicle code violations.

The department said the sweep took place on Monday, April 9. It was not a code enforcement operation.

The goal of the sweep was to remove vehicles found on city streets in violation of California Vehicle Code sections – specifically, vehicles with registration expired in excess of six months and vehicles found blocking or obstructing roadways creating a traffic hazard, the police department said.

During the sweep, a total of 34 vehicles were towed pursuant to state law, the agency reported.

Of the vehicles towed, 28 had registration expired over six months and six were found to be blocking roadways, according to the report.

The police department reporting receiving positive comments from several residents regarding the sweep and many of the vehicles towed were found to be abandoned or junked vehicles.
