CLEARLAKE – A Clearlake man is in the Lake County Jail after allegedly shooting at his girlfriend as she attempted to drive to the police department for help.
Sean Allan Morgan, 31, is being held with bail set at $150,000 after being arrested on domestic violence and weapons charges, according to Lt. Mike Hermann of the Clearlake Police Department.
On Wednesday morning at approximately 4:44 a.m., Clearlake Police received a call from a female reporting that she had been battered by her live-in boyfriend and was in the process of driving to the police department, Hermann said.
The woman stated that her boyfriend, Morgan, was in his vehicle following her on Lakeshore Drive. Hermann said that, while the victim was still on the phone with the dispatcher, several gunshots were heard in the background as the woman advised that Morgan was now shooting at her.
Officers Carl Miller and Dominic Ramirez responded to the area and located the victim on Lakeshore Drive near Alvita, said Hermann. The officers had the woman continue to the police station while they searched for Morgan.
Hermann said Morgan was found at a friend’s residence on Schulz Avenue in Clearlake, where he was arrested without incident.
During the course of the investigation, the handgun Morgan is alleged to have used during the incident was never found; however, Hermann said officers did locate several 9 millimeter shell casings in the roadway on Lakeshore Drive near Mullen Avenue.
Morgan was charged with domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon and illegal discharge of a firearm, and booked into the Lake County Jail, Hermann said.
Hermann told Lake County News that Clearlake Police has had numerous contacts with Morgan, who also has previously faced domestic violence charges.
The investigation into this incident, including a search for the outstanding handgun (believed to be a Silver & Black Glock 9mm) is continuing.
