LAKEPORT, Calif. – The 2015 Lake County Walnut Update will be held on Wednesday, April 8.

The meeting will be held from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Scotts Valley Women’s Club, 2298 Hendricks Road, Lakeport.

The meeting is sponsored by University of California Cooperative Extension, the Lake County Department of Agriculture and the California Walnut Board.

The agenda will be released soon, but look forward to these important topics: local walnut trials,  effects of climate change on seasonal growth, water outlook and irrigation management, canopy management, walnut twig beetle and 1,000 cankers disease, and domestic and international marketing.

Growers are encouraged to watch or download the video above, “Budding, Grafting, and Planting Walnuts in the Field,” featuring Upper Lake's own Alex Suchan.

The video provides detailed instructions on whip, side whip, and bark grafting, patch budding, top working older trees and planting, includes a glossary of terms and FAQs, and is an excellent instructional aid for novices and experts alike.
