LAKEPORT, Calif. – On Saturday, Oct. 19, the Lake County Resource Conservation District will partner with the Master Gardeners to sponsor a day of learning about native plants and the opportunity to purchase and grow them yourselves.
The sale will be held at the Agricultural Center, 889 Lakeport Blvd. in Lakeport, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
At 11 a.m. a Master Gardener will talk about the advantages of growing California natives and ways to make the best of their special characteristics.
There are many advantages to landscaping with California native plants. They provide outstanding natural habitat and are usually drought tolerant; many are fire-resistant, deer resistant and in the right location, easy to grow. Imagine your front yard filled with the eye catching hues of scarlet monkey flowers, brilliant penstemon and California “fuchsias.”
Bring in bees with salvias, support butterflies with milkweed, and attract many varieties of birds with toyon and snowberries.
All the plants for sale have been propagated and grown in Lake County, and will be available for sale at $8 for a gallon plant container. Please bring your garden questions.
