CAHP Credit Union establishes memorial fund for fallen CHP Sgt. Steve Licon

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. – On April 6, at approximately 4:26 p.m., California Highway Patrol Sgt. Steve Licon was struck and killed on Interstate 15 near Lake Elsinore by a suspected drunk driver.

Licon was a 27-year veteran of the California Highway Patrol.

He was conducting a traffic stop behind a Chrysler sedan when a gray Toyota Corolla crashed into his motorcycle. He was airlifted to Inland Valley Medical Center where he tragically died from his injuries.

Licon was a beloved sergeant who mentored other officers. His presence will be missed by all those who knew him.

Sgt. Licon is survived by his wife and two daughters.

“This story of yet another officer dying while keeping our community safe breaks our hearts,” said Brad Houle, CAHP Credit Union president. “Sgt. Licon was a model sergeant, husband, and father. We grieve with his family during this trying time.”

The CAHP Credit Union has established a memorial fund in honor of Sgt. Licon. One-hundred percent of all donations received will go directly to Sergeant Licon’s wife and children. The CAHP Credit Union is covering all processing fees and administrative responsibilities.

Donations can be made on the CAHP Credit Union Web site or mailed to Sgt. Steve Licon Memorial Fund, CAHP Credit Union, P.O. Box 276507, Sacramento, CA 95827-6507.
