Carlé Chronicle: Updates on Harvest Fest and new principal

carleheaderLOWER LAKE, Calif. – Carlé announced two students of the week, Micaela Martinez-Fisher and Michael Solano, who were honored for being excellent and consummate students.

Last week we had an error on of student leveling. Thought to be a silver level student Cheyanne West is actually a gold level student. Congrats and sorry.

Gold level students from the first grading period will be treated to a trip to Scandia fun center later this month. Silver level students will be treated to a special movie shown in our library.

Many thanks go out to student Nick Kiefer who is getting the library’s sound system ready for our Harvest fest and the silver level movie.

Harvest Fest will be Nov. 1. It’s going to be a funpacked day filled with games and artistic endeavors designed and run by our student council.

There will be no school on Oct. 30. Happy Halloween.

The end of our second grading period will be Oct. 28. With that in mind the students of Carlé took credit check around to all their teachers on Friday, Oct. 7, to see how they stand half way through this grade period.

Carlé gives out credits 12 times a year to keep students fully abreast of where they stand and put them each in charge of their own credit histories and graduation.

Our level system at Carlé is as follows:

– Gold level: Attendance needs to be at least 90 percent and credits earned needs to be 15.
– Silver level: attendance needs to be at least 85 percent and credits need to be 12.
– Bronze level: attendance needs to be at least 80 percent and credits earned needs to be at least nine.

This reporter had the chance to interview Ms. Heather Koehler, our new principal at Carlé High School.

Whether it’s been her own kids, Cameila and Eli, or her students, children have always been a big part of her life.

She went to school and graduated from Kelseyville Unified. After graduation, she headed to the Bay Area to attend community college and then transferred to San Francisco State to finish her Bachelor of Arts degree.

She attended Sonoma State for her teaching credential and administrative services credential. She is now almost done with her masters degree in educational leadership.

She likes the positivity of Carlé, the humor and the small campus. Another reason she likes our small campus is having more one on one time with students.

Ms. Koehler has plans to increase opportunities in elective classes for students and promote fun learning, and education.

Before coming to Carlé Ms. Koehler worked in various roles for Konocti Unified School District. She served as a curriculum coach and as a fourth grade teacher. She was Burns Valley’s vice principal, and for the last four years she was the principal at Pomo School.

It has been wonderful for her to transfer here to see students in the end of their K-12 student experiences as she has seen some of them enter in kindergarten. She also shared that family and cooking are big parts of her life.

Brianna E. Legg is a student at Carlé Continuation High School in Lower Lake.
