A Wednesday report from CPD Sgt. Mike Hermann stated that police have been investigating the burglary earlier this month of Gloria's Gift Gallery. The shop's front window was shattered and numerous items were stolen during the early morning hours of Jan. 2.
The owner of the business estimated losses at $1,800, due to the thefts and damaged property, Hermann's report noted.
CPD Officer Carl Miller obtained information in the case on Tuesday that helped him identify two potential suspects, Jeffrey Dooley, 20, and Bradley “Buddy” Smith, both of Clearlake.
Miller contacted Dooley at his residence, where Miller located and recovered the property stolen from Gloria's Gift Gallery.
Hermann's report said Dooley admitted his role in the crime and was arrested without incident.
On Wednesday morning, Smith also was contacted at his home and arrested for his alleged part in the crime. During booking, police said Smith also admitted being involved in the burglary.
Both Dooley and Smith were booked into the Lake County Jail. Smith is charged with felony first-degree burglary with bail set at $10,000. Dooley also faces a first-degree burglary charge, along with two additional felonies, conspiracy to commit a crime and receiving stolen property, with his bail set at $30,000.
CPD reported that both men may face additional charges after the District Attorney's Office reviews the case.
