The reopening comes just in time for the city’s big Independence Day celebration on Tuesday.
Beginning in early February the city had closed all of Library Park for several weeks due to the storms, which flooded the park and did extensive damage, as Lake County News has reported.
Since then, parts of the park – including the playground – have remained closed to the public due to the need for ongoing repairs.
City staff made the necessary fixes to the playground, including replacing the bark which had been washed away in the storms, in order to get it reopened.
At last week’s Lakeport City Council meeting, City Manager Margaret Silveira had reported that, thanks to Lake County having been declared a disaster area as a result of the storms, the city expects to receive close to 100-percent reimbursement from the federal government for repairs to city facilities including the park.
