LAKEPORT, Calif. – Book to Action, the Lake County Library’s community-wide reading program, will culminate in a free community conversation called “Hold Hands. With Strangers” that will put into practice the tools that Brené Brown describes in her book Braving the Wilderness.

"Hold Hands. With strangers" will take place on Saturday, April 28, at 2 p.m. at Lakeport Library, 1425 N. High St.

Everyone is welcome to participate, even those who have not read “Braving the Wilderness.”

JoAnn Saccato, a mindfulness teacher and life coach, will facilitate “Hold Hands. With Strangers” which will address a range of topics that community members suggested at a previous “Book to Action” discussion.

The topics of interest include guilt, shared community values, and creating opportunities to break out of our comfort zones and engage with strangers.

“Book to Action” is an exciting program that builds on the classic book club concept by creating a dynamic series of events.

Along with discussing an engaging book on a current topic, libraries across the state host events that help people put their new-found knowledge into action by collaborating on a community service project or civic engagement activity related to the book’s topic.

In “Braving the Wilderness,” Brown redefines what it means to belong in an age of increased polarization.

Using research, storytelling and her own personal stories, Brown changes the cultural conversation while mapping a clear path to achieving a sense of what she calls true belonging.
