KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Lake County Chapter of California Women for Agriculture will be busy the Friday before the Pear Festival cooking up a huge batch of pear pies and pear turnovers under the direction of Pear Pie Baking Chair Andrea Adams.
Following a long tradition, members gather early in the morning with some of the crew peeling and slicing the pears donated by Scully Packing Co. while others are building the pies and turnovers ready for baking.
The kitchen smells divine! The result is 100 delicious pies and more than 350 turnovers ready for the sales booth on Saturday morning.
Booth sales are being organized by Jill Jensen. Come early to Pear Square and visit the booth for your best chance to score a pie or turnover.
Chapter President Terry Dereniuk said, “This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Last year, pie and turnover sales brought in over $2,600 to go to our scholarship fund. With the help of this money, in 2018, we were able to award scholarships to eight deserving students whose career plans include a field in agriculture.”
They will greet you in the new Pear Square.
