Soroptimist Club hosts Mystery Dinner Theatre fundraiser Oct. 27

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Clear Lake Soroptimists will hold their third annual Mystery Dinner Theatre on Saturday, Oct. 27.

The event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Highlands Senior Center, 3245 Bowers Ave. in Clearlake.

All proceeds raised stay local.

Three years ago, the Clear Lake Club decided to add a fundraiser to increase their impact in Lake County. They chose mystery dinner theatre and a “who done it” fitting of the county’s growing wine industry, “The Sour Grapes of Wrath.”

It was a hit and this year’s play, “The Masquerade Murder,” again offers a night of mystery, audience participation and competition. Four winners will select a spectacular Soroptimist basket. Raffle tickets will also be on sale for some great “mystery prizes” courtesy of long time club member Sally Munger.

“We always have such a great time hosting mystery theatre,” said Julie Moyer, chair of this year’s production. “We have an excellent cast including local thespians Brock Becker, Charles Berry, Ashley Chandler, Pollyann Johnston, and Club President, Ami Landrum,” she said.

Improving on last year’s event, the Club invested in a new sound system and a stage prop for photographs. “We encourage everyone to wear a mask and evening attire – dating from the 1600s to present - and have their picture taken as a reminder of how much fun a lively and interactive who done it can be,” Moyer said.

The Soroptimist Club is a volunteer organization dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.

Coming up are the 2018 “Live Your Dream” awards, a program providing cash grants to women working to better their lives through additional schooling and skills training.

The club also supports many other programs such as “The Nest,” a residential program for homeless pregnant and or parenting youth; Totes4Teens; anti-human trafficking awareness training; the annual East/South Lake Father-Daughter dance; cash awards for high school volunteers and more.

Dinner is by Chatterbox Catering. Wine by R Vineyards, courtesy of club member Monica Rosenthal, is available for purchase and the “S” Club, a local high school service club, is serving.

Ticket prices are $40 if purchased by Oct. 19 and $50 if purchased on or after Oct. 20.
